The disruption affected millions of users, who were all unable to process payments through the app.
On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, many users of the online payment app Gcash took to social media to share their frustrations over the app’s apparent inaccessibility. Some have even reported that their money transferred to an account to a certain bank without their knowledge and permission.
A few hours later, Gcash released a statement on their official channels, saying “[s]ome customers have experienced a deduction in their Gcash account yesterday [May 8, 2023].” “We extended our scheduled maintenence to investigate and determined that no hacking occurred.”
The service assured that the deduction in the accounts of affected users will be “adjusted before 3pm today.”

We wish to further assure customers that their funds remain safe and secure. We would like to also remind customers never to share their OTP and MPIN.
