Kapatids will be getting an enhanced viewing experience this April.
On March 21, 2023, TV5 formally announced the forthcoming launch of its high-definition channel on Cignal TV and other pay TV providers in the country. TV5 HD, as it will be called, launches on April Fools’ Day, April 1, 2023. But wary not as this new channel will not be an April Fools’ joke, the network’s official teaser video assured.
The launch of TV5 HD marks a new milestone and ushers in another era for the network. For one, the HD channel will be the materialization of the plan that started way back in 2011. And two, it will align TV5 with its sister channels in Cignal, like One PH, One Sports+, PBA Rush, which are mostly airing with separate HD feeds themselves.
TV5 HD will also make the Kapatid network the second major free-to-air network in the country to have ever launched a distinct high-definition feed. The first ever was ABS-CBN HD, which aired from 2015 up to the mother station’s shutdown in 2020.
It also remains to be seen whether TV5’s main feed will switch to widescreen broadcasts in conjunction with the HD channel’s launch.
TV5 HD will launch on April 1 on Cignal channel 15 and other pay TV providers nationwide.
