PNR to stop operations for 5 years while NSCR is being built
The Department of Transportation said yesterday that they are looking into the possibility of closing down the Philippine National Railways line from Malabon to Calamba to allow the construction of the North-South Commuter line. Under the plan, the NSCR will build upon the PNR’s current right of way.
According to them, the government will also save money as building on land that the state already owns will no longer require the acquisition of more lands, as well as realignment of utility services. About 30,000 passengers are estimated to be displaced once the PNR line is closed for 5 years.
The NSCR, meanwhile, will run from New Clark City in Tarlac down to Calamba, Laguna.
Defective pantograph causes LRT-1 to temporarily stop operations this morning
A defective pantograph for a train on the LRT-1 caused the system to temporarily limit its operations this morning. According to the LRMC, operator of the line, the said pantograph was used for a Gen 3 trainset, which experienced the issue between Libertad and EDSA stations at 5:55 am.
Notmal train operations from Baclaran to Roosevelt eventually resumed at 10:05 am.
80 out of 120 new light rail vehicles for LRT-1, defective – DOTr
DOTr Underscretary Cesar Chavez said before the Senate yesterday that 80 out of the 120 LRVs (light rail vehicles) acquired for LRT Line 1 are not able to be used due to water leaks.
However, as the payment for the deal is yet to be completed, these issues can still be fixed, the Undersecretary assured.
