Disney+ set to arrive in the Philippines this November

Content from the house of mouse will soon be available for streaming.

On Thursday, October 20, 2022, Disney finally dropped its long-awaited and well-kept secret for its legion of Filipino fans: Disney+ will soon arrive to our shores, on Thursday, November 17, to be exact. According to their social media pages, Disney+ Philippines will be a standalone service, similar to that of Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea, among other Asian countries.

Content-wise, Disney+ PH will be the feature hours worth of content from Walt Disney studios, Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm (Star Wars), National Geographic, and Star. As for content available on Hotstar or Disney+ Hotstar in select regions, it is not yet known whether they will be included in the upcoming Philippine variant.

In the same announcement, Disney revealed the pricing model for the service here in the country. Would-be-subscribers of its Mobile plan will have to pay ₱159 per month or ₱1150 a year. They will be allowed to create seven profiles, but will be limited to 1 concurrent streaming only. Video quality is also capped at 720p and Mobile users will only be allowed to watch using phones or tablets.

As for the other end of the spectrum, Premium subscribers will have to shell out ₱369 a month or ₱2950 annually. Users will also be allowed to create 7 profiles, with 4 concurrent screens allowed to stream at one time. Streaming quality of up to 4K Ultra HD will be available for them. The ability to watch via television and laptop will also be included in the plan, on top of mobile phones and tablets.

The announcement of Disney+ comes after a year since the Walt Disney company shuttered the operations of its pay television channels in Southeast Asia, including the Philippines, and Hong Kong in October 2021.
