GMA inadvertedly airs NCT Dream clip on ’97ers report

Jeong Jaehyun suddenly became part of brother unit NCT Dream.

On May 19, 2020, GMA’s primetime newscast 24 Oras aired a news report on the Itaewon incident involving idols Jeon Jungkook of BTS, Kim Mingyu of SEVENTEEN, Cha Eunwoo of ASTRO, and Jeong Jaehyun of NCT 127.

But, fans have raised several points for correction in the said report by GMA News showbiz correspondent Aubrey Carampel.

First up is the usage of the report published by Dispatch. Despite the pronouncements made by the agencies of the four idols mentioned, several fans have alleged that the news of the April 25 Itaewon meet-up was blown out of proportion and called it downright “fake news”. Some also disliked the use of terms like “gumimik”, which in turn has negative connotations amidst the current pandemic.

Next and certainly the most notable blunder for eagle-eyed viewers: the use of clips from NCT Dream’s The Dream Show in Manila which was held in February. Apparently, videos of the six-member unit’s performance were repeatedly ran through the entire report as additional visual component. However, the major problem is that Jaehyun is and was never part of the Dream unit.

Many fans have since called out the network to apologize for the points that they have raised. #GMAApologize had also trended as a show of demand for an official apology from the station.

Both GMA Network and GMA News have not responded to the issue as of press time. Hallyu Today also remains open to hear the side of the station for the sake of balanced reporting.

Meanwhile, you can watch the said news report below and see it for yourself.
