Ten years ago, as TV5 was officially relaunched as the Kapatid network, the station also created a (then-) brand new newscast on primetime. Titled as ‘Aksyon’, it reflected the vision of News5 to deliver news with credibility and action through the slogan “Higit sa Balita, Aksyon.”
The program was first anchored by Paolo Bediones and Cheryl Cosim on weekday evenings and by the trio of Martin Andanar, Cheri Mercado, and Jove Francisco on weekends. Ironically, the weekend anchors were all from TV5’s previous flagship newscast ‘TEN: The Evening News’.
Ever since its launch, the brand was expanded on to various platforms. Examples include AksyonTV on channel 41 and online as InterAksyon. Radyo5’s main news bulletin was also christened as Aksyon News Update, complementing TV5’s Aksyon News Alerts.
At present, it has two editions airing every weekday: Tanghali at 12:30pm and Prime at 6:30pm. The former is anchored by Raffy Tulfo and Marga Vargas and has since been known for its public service segment. Meanwhile, the primetime edition is presented by News5 chief Luchi Cruz-Valdes and senior correspondent Ed Lingao.
Since March 17, both editions have been placed on hiatus as TV5 currently airs COVID-19 and Luzon lockdown news updates from the network’s sister news channel on Cignal, One News.
