February 15, 2020 will indeed be some sort of historical for two GMA shows: Wish Ko Lang and Wowowin.
Wish Ko Lang
The Kapuso Saturday lineup will have some refresh this month. First up, public service program Wish Ko Lang will be ending after more than 17 years on air.
Hosted by Vicky Morales, the show once featured heartwarming wish-granting segments that proved popular among its viewers. However, once a reformat kicked in some time in 2014, WKL took on the docudrama route, and started dramatizing events of their lucky pick for that episode.
After the change, ratings started eroding further and Wish fell victim to ABS-CBN’s SOCO.
After 17 plus years on air, GMA finally pulled the plug and Wish Ko Lang is staging a farewell by featuring their first story under Vicky Morales in 2004.
Wish Ko Lang is set to be replaced by another public affairs show, Ilaban Natin Yan, which is still hosted by Vicky Morales.
Wowowin Primetime
Announced late last year, Wowowin is finally extending the fun to Saturday primetime!
Aptly named as Wowowin Primetime, the maiden broadcast of this edition will be graced by the launch of the second season of The Will To Win, a talent competition segment first aired in 2018.
Wowowin Primetime will air Saturdays at 7:00pm, after Pepito Manaloto. Meanwhile, the weekday edition will still remain at its current timeslot of 5 to 6:30pm, before 24 Oras.
To accommodate the launch of Wowowin Primetime, GMA has pushed Vic Sotto and Maine Mendoza’s Daddy’s Gurl to 8pm and Mel Tiangco’s Magpakailanman to 8:50pm.
These changes are said to be part of GMA’s 70th anniversary offerings this 2020.
