In a poster uploaded on social media on Friday, November 6, the Department of Tourism, Light Rail Manila Corporation, and Sumitomo Corporation jointly announced a special initiative for rail commuters in the coming week.

On November 9 (Monday), November 11 (Wednesday), and November 13 (Friday), there will be free rides for all passengers during select times. It is between 7:00 to 9:00 am in the morning and 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the evening.

The move is one of the initiatives laid out amid the preparations for Metro Manila’s hosting of the 49th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings, which will happen from November 16 (Monday) to November 18 (Wednesday)

Before this, the Department of Tourism and Department of Transportation (DOTr) teamed up for free jeepney rides in select areas in Metro Manila, which began on November 5 (Thursday), following the ceremonial signing of an agreement that will mobilize a total of 30 modern jeepneys, and will be operating for 10 days until November 14, 2026.

Spread across two major routes, commuters may avail of free roundtrip services from SM Fairview to Buendia (North Route) and from Sucat to Baclaran (South Route), with each service having a fleet of 15 vehicles.

Both will operate from 4:00 am to 10:00 pm, with the North route having eight one-way trips (or four round trips), while the South service has ten (or five round trips).
