Recognizing the top performances in local cinema in the past year.
On Tuesday, October 27, the 74th FAMAS (Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences) Awards was held at the Manila Hotel in the City of Manila.
During the night, McCoy de Leon emerged as the winner in the Best Actor category for his portrayal in In The Name, while Maricel Soriano bagged the Best Actress award for Meet, Greet & Bye.
Meanwhile, Maris Racal was given a special Best Actress Of Distinction award, which is a separate category, for her role as Sunshine in the movie of the same name.
“For the longest time, FAMAS has maintained that the selection of its Best Actress is not confined solely to an isolated performance but also takes into consideration the actress’s collective body of work, consistency of artistic excellence, versatility, and enduring contribution to Philippine cinema,” it shared in a statement.
The Best Actress Award, it said, recognizes the excellence of an actress in a particular film, but also the depth, maturity, and cumulative artistic achievements that lend greater significance to her performance.
Meanwhile, the Actress of Distinction Award “recognizes a singular performance of exceptional artistic merit one that demonstrates extraordinary depth, originality, emotional conviction, and an unmistakable impact on the cinematic experience.”
Heading to other categories, Karylle and Mon Confiado were respectively conferred the Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor awards for their characters in the movie Quezon.
Dina Bonnevie earned the Queen of Philippine Cinema award, while Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) President Jose Javier Reyes was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
