Her hopes of having another trophy this season is still alive.
On Wednesday, Filipina tennis star Alex Eala participated in the second round of the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, Japan.
There, the world no. 20 took on the challenge from world no. 38, Australian netter Talia Gibson, who defeated her fellow Australian Daria Kasatkina in the first round of the competition.
In the opening set, Eala had a slow start as Gibson was able to close out the first set on top. However, the Filipina tennis ace was able to find her footing and broke her opponent early in the second set and kept her competitor at bay to force a decider.
There, Alex did not let go of her momentum and assured herself of a win by finishing their match with a clean sweep.
The final scoreline was 4-6, 6-2, 6-0
Up next for the Filipina is a rematch with Russian player Diana Shnaider, who had defeated her at the recent Ningbo Open in China, just the week prior to this competition
The Pan Pacific Open is set to be Eala’s second-to-last stop in Asia and the current WTA season—where she made strides by winning two trophies at the DC Open and Birmingham Open, and historic feats at the Wimbledon and US Open.
