Carlos Yulo ends Gymnastics World Championships on a whimper; vows to ‘come back stronger’

He remains with a positive outlook despite the results.

He remains with a positive outlook despite the results.

Over the weekend, the Golden Boy of Philippine Sports, Carlos Yulo, returned to compete at the 54th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

On the first day, he aimed to get the title in the men’s floor exercise final, which he first earned in 2019.

However, his efforts did not pay off as he  finished eighth (and last) in the floor exercise final with 13.233 points — 7.633 in execution and 5.800 in difficulty. There was a 0.10 stick bonus and 0.30 penalty.

The following day, a bigger challenge came for him as he looked to defend his title in the men’s floor exercise final, where he earned  13.833 points — 8.033 in execution, 5.600 in difficulty, with a 0.30 penalty.

Those points, however, only allowed him to land a seventh place finish in the event, with Artur Davtyan (Armenia) getting the gold medal with 14.850 points.

In his social media post, Carlos, who clinched two of the Philippines’ gold medals at the recent Asian Games 2026 in Japan, remained grateful in spite of the results.

“It wasn’t the result I hoped to give, but I’m always grateful to our Lord for giving me this opportunity,” he wrote. “Not just to compete, but also to learn, grow, and see the bigger picture. Sometimes, God allows things to happen for reasons we may not immediately understand, and I’m learning to trust His plans even more.”

The two-time Olympian continued: “Sobrang happy ko na kahit anong mga nangyari, we’re still here magkakapatid, supporting and standing by each other.”

He also expressed his pride for his younger brother, Karl Yulo, and told him: “We both fought hard, gave everything we had, and left it all out there. Wala tayong dapat pagsisihan because we know how much we gave and how hard we worked for this.”

Meanwhile, for his elder sister Jorielgel Yulo, Carlos also gave his message: “I’m so happy and proud of your journey as a judge! Never ko na imagine na magkakasama tayong magre-represent ng Pilipinas in our own ways. What a special moment for us siblings.”

“This competition may not have ended the way I wanted, but I’m choosing to be grateful for the lessons, the memories, and the people God continue to bless me with. We may fall short of the results we dream of, but we will never stop fighting, learning, and believing,” he also wrote.

Meanwhile, in the same post, he shared: “When we thought our first trip in Australia together couldn’t get any better, GOD said, ‘wait, there’s more’ and sent us siblings to Europe for the World Champs.”

Carlos also thanked his fiancé, Chloe San Jose, for always showering him and his siblings with “so much love and support.”

“Thank you rin palagi sa mga napaka-sayang side quests like this one sa Paris. Hindi mo alam kung gaano mo na-heal yung inner child naming magkakapatid. These little moments mean so much more to us than you’ll ever know. Thank you for making life outside gymnastics just as beautiful and memorable. Mahal na mahal kita!” he added.

The Golden Boy of Philippine Sports also thanked their famil in the Philippines and everyone else who prayed, believed, and supported them through it all.

“By God’s grace, we’ll come back stronger. Always for the Philippines,” he also said.
