This means that flying to the province can now mark the start of a bigger Visayas journey for travelers as they become connected to more islands, experiences and destinations within one trip.
The Department of Tourism (DOT), Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), and the Visayas Island-Chamber Tourism Alliance (VITA) have come together for a shared purpose.
The entities seek to encourage travelers to discover more of the region, with Cebu serving as a gateway to multi-island travel through the Discover the Visayas, #FlyViaCebu campaign.
Last October 23, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding launching the campaign that is built around the promise lt “One Gateway. More Islands.”
This campaign initially bundles Lapu-Lapu, Panglao, Boracay, Siquijor, Guimaras and Biliran, and aims to show travelers how they can go beyond a single destination and experience more of the Visayas.
Discover the Visayas, #FlyViaCebu also brings these possibilities together with practical travel information to help visitors see where they can go next and plan a journey that works for them.
MCIA serves as the campaign’s principal gateway, connecting international and domestic travelers arriving in Cebu with onward air, sea, and land travel throughout the Visayas.
For travelers continuing by air, CEB Connects, MCIA’s passenger transfer service, makes connecting to and from MCIA’s 28 domestic and 13 international destinations more convenient.
VITA’s participating chambers include PCCI (Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Boracay, Guimaras Island Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lapu-Lapu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, PCCI Panglao, Biliran Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Siquijor Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Hence, travelers can Live the Island Life in Lapu-Lapu, where beaches, marine experiences and the city’s history are all within reach.
They can continue onwards to Panglao for white-sand beaches, diving and marine adventures, or head to Boracay for its iconic shores, island activities and vibrant dining and nightlife.
Those looking for a different pace can experience the waterfalls, beaches and traditions of Siquijor, discover the mangoes, landscapes and local character of Guimaras, or venture east to Biliran for waterfalls, island escapes and nature-based adventures.
The campaign has also partnered with online travel agencies to make the next steps easier, with flights and hotels accessible through Trip.com, and find activities and experiences through Klook, including available partner deals and offers.
