Following recent confirmation of her daughter’s upcoming return to the limelight after going on a health-related hiatus.
At the recent press conference organized by Solaire Resort Quezon City for the Quezon Club’s entertainment lineup, Trendrod had an exclusive sit-down chat with multi- awarded singer, actress, and theater performer Carla Guevara-Laforteza.
During our conversation, we touched upon the question that many have been wanting to ask regarding her daughter, KATSEYE member Sophia Laforteza.
Recently, the group’s label, Hybe X Geffen Records, confirmed that the 23-year-old pop star is making her comeback with the team this January—which will be about five months to the day since her health-related hiatus started in August.
“Well, you’ll see her in January. Brand new Sophia, 100 percent Sophia, so I think that’s great!” Carla expressed excitement about her daughter’s return.
In connection with that, there were also questions about the possibility of her reuniting other parents of KATSEYE members.
The seasoned actress-performer replied that she, too, is hoping to hang out with their own clique that has been tagged by fans as the “KATSEYE moms.”
“Sana,” she conveyed her hopes for a get-together.
Carla also shared that many have asked her in the past about why she is rarely seen in concerts of her daughter’s group.
“You know, it’s so hard, especially for me. A lot of people are asking me why I’m not in Sophia’s concerts (and the reason) is because I also work!” she candidly told Trendrod. “Meron pa akong pinapaaral na pilot at isang high schooler. Plus, I have credit card bills to pay.”
“Unfortunately, when Sophia has concerts abroad, hindi (rin) talaga nagtutugma ‘yung schedule namin,” she also noted.
Furthermore, Carla also said that she and her husband, Chef Godfrey Laforteza, are “hardworkers” — a trait that she notes that the pop star had inherited from them.
“And one of the things that Sophia was able to learn from me and her dad is that when we commit to something, we are (fully) committed… We have our own careers, our own lives, and our commitments and responsibilities, that’s why I am unable to (go to these concerts).”
Although, she also told Trendrod that she is willing to go on hiatus for a year and spend time with her daughter.
“My God! I would love to take an entire year of hiatus just to be able to be with my daughter (and) to watch her concerts abroad,” Carla said.
She also looks forward to Sophia and the rest of KATSEYE going on a show in Asia, noting that it would be logistically easier for her to fly out just to witness them live.
“That’s why I wait for them to come to Asia instead. Kung nasa Asia ‘yan, may show sila dito, mas madali! Two, three, or four hours at the most lang ang flight… pwede kong i-overnight lang ‘yan,” the chanteuse noted.
She also quipped, “But if I go to America, s’yempre… ang mahal ng ticket, ah! Marami tayong binabayaran at mga responsibilities.”
While they are not able to be physically present at times, Carla shared that she and her husband also make a conscious effort to let their support reach Sophia through virtual means.
“My husband and I are more of a full support online. But she (Sophia) knows that we love her and support her,” she stressed.
Carla Guevara-Laforteza is one of the performers at the Quezon Club at Solaire Resort Quezon City and she has shows with David Ezra every Wednesday night at 8:00 pm.
Together, they join the roster comprising Quezon Club’s Creative Director Radha, Aliya Parcs, JMRTN, the QC Kids Crew, and The Sirens.
