Viewers and netizens were equally stunned and amused by the segment.
On Wednesday, October 14, Gladys Reyes appeared as the guest Celebrity Star Patroller on ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol Express and the flagship TV Patrol.
While her delivery of the hottest headlines in showbiz for the former, the afternoon new bulletin, was impeccable, that was not the highlight of her appearance.
Instead, that went to the final few minutes of the show, where anchors Jeff Canoy and Denice Dinsay were joined by the evening edition’s Karen Davila at the newsroom studio.
Davila teased Reyes about having a “sampalan moment” and asked about the difference between a fake slap and the “real” one a la kontrabida.
“Hindi ako marunong ng fake! Gusto ko lahat makatotohanan!” quipped Gladys. “Kaya ang alay mo ngayon ay si Jeff.”
As the credits started to roll, she demonstrated the fake slap with Karen. However, it was the real one that landed Jeff’s face—singlehandedly becoming the viral moment of the said episode.
After revenging the iconic slap from the seasoned actress, the ABS-CBN Chief of Reporters struggled to find words and joked around such as looking for the nearest precinct and even whether they were airing on rival station GMA.
But before the feed was cut off, the actress was heard apologizing to the anchor for the moment that was done for pure fun.
Hours later on the primetime edition, she also did the same “kontrabida” slap with Alvin Elchico this time.
“At least dalawa na kami ni Jeff,” the news anchor joked after the moment.
“(Pero) ang sumampal naman sa’yo ay si Gladys Reyes naman,” co-anchor Bernadette Sembrano chimed in.
The said “kontrabida” moments have since garnered thousands of reactions across different social media platforms.
Some also doubled down and connected it with a previous viral TV Patrol Express moment, joking that Gladys Reyes slapped “Sofia Andres” — a reference to the viral mix-up of the Kapamilya actress during her own appearance earlier this year.
TV Patrol Express airs weekdays at 5:30 pm, while TV Patrol is broadcast each weeknight at 6:30 pm across different ABS-CBN platforms.
