Two of the country’s top athletes have finally met.
On Friday, October 2, the stars finally aligned as Filipina tennis star Alex Eala and Filipino pole vault king EJ Obiena met on the sidelines of the ongoing 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
During which, the two exchanged pleasantries before taking the time to get to each other’s sport.
EJ was game to face Alex for a light-hearted tennis match on the hard court, while Eala sought some information about pole vault.
Aside from that, they also did a TikTok video together to the tune of Parokya ni Edgar’s Akala. To cap the once in a blue moon collaboration, the two athletes flexed their medals that they got from the ongoing Asiad.
EJ brought along his gold medal, which he clinched in the men’s pole vault finals on Tuesday, September 29, when he also created a new Asian Games record of 5.91-meters. The 30-year-old also became a two-time champion in the continent, as he also won gold in the Hangzhou games in 2023.
Meanwhile, Alex was wearing her bronze medal, which he clinched after participating in the women’s singles event. It was only earlier in the day when Alex received the medal at the podium.
The Asian Games 2026 is set to run until Sunday, October 4, when the closing ceremony is also expected to take place.
