Alex Eala, Shaira Rivera advance to second round of women’s doubles in Asian Games tennis

On Tuesday, September 29, Filipina tennis star Alex Eala partnered up with Shaira Rivera to compete in the women’s doubles event of the ongoing Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

There, they faced opposition from Lai Ching Laam and Liu Kallista of Hong Kong during their match that took place around lunchtime at the Indoor Court B of the Higashiyama Park Tennis Center.

On the first set, the duo was able to gain momentum, in spite of their opponent breaking them in one game to score a point.

Although, they would be tougher play in the succeeding set, with the Filipina pair having gotten themselves in a 2-all setup earlier, before pulling away.

Eventually, they were able to close it victoriously with the final scoreline of 6-1, 6-3. Eala and Rivera are then expected to go against Xinyu Jiang and Zhaoxuan Yang of China in the Round of 16.

Prior to this, in the second round of the women’s singles event on Monday, September 28, top-seeded player Alex Eala went against Thai player Patcharin Cheapchandej. She would close it with a decisive two-set win, 6-1, 6-0.

She is expected to face Chinese Taipei’s Joanna Garland in the quarterfinals of the event.
