His license was also suspended pending the result of the said hearing.
On Tuesday, September 22, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a statement on its social media page regarding its course of action following a video uploaded on social media by a television personality, whose name it did not reveal.
In the said video, the LTO noted that the personality was with his fellow co-hosts when they recorded themselves singing inside the car.
However, the TV host was flagged for not wearing a seatbelt, with the agency also noting that he went out of the vehicle briefly, before returning inside.
Thus, through a directive by Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao, the LTO issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) to the registered owner and driver of the vehicle in question.
He was also instructed to head to the Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) on September 29, 2026 for a hearing.
“Kinakailangan din nito magsumite ng sinumpaang salaysay o paliwanag, kalakip ang mga dokumentong maaaring sumuporta sa kanilang panig, upang ipaliwanag kung bakit hindi dapat managot ang itinalagang drayber sa mga posibleng paglabag sa Failure to Wear the Prescribed Seatbelt Device at Reckless Driving, gayundin sa posibleng pagdeklara sa drayber bilang Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle, na maaaring magresulta sa pagsuspinde o pagbawi ng kanyang lisensya sa pagmamaneho,” the LTO added in its statement.
Meanwhile, a 90-day preventive suspension on his license to drive was also impose amid investigations, with the LTO instructing him to surrender the license and has since placed the vehicle under “alarm status.”
“Walang masama sa pag-content at pagsasaya sa loob ng sasakyan, pero hindi kailanman dapat isantabi ang kaligtasan para dito. Bilang lisensyadong drayber, alam niya ang kanyang responsibilidad na magsuot ng seatbelt, manatiling nakatuon sa pagmamaneho, at sumunod sa iba pang umiiral na batas-trapiko,” said Lacanilao. “Kapag may paglabag, maaasahan ang LTO na kikilos nang walang pinipili at walang pinapalampas.”
As of this writing, the TV host, who is identified to be comedian Ian Red of the noontime show Eat Bulaga, has not yet issued any statement regarding the matter.
However, he is noticeably absent in the past two live episodes of the program this week.
