Last Thursday, September 3, the rom-com movie Almost Us made its debut on streaming giant Netflix.
The film, top-billed by Kapamilya love team Fyang Smith and JM Ibarra, collectively known as JMFyang, immediately rose to the top of the Top 10 Movies in the Philippines list of the platform—placing Number 1 until this Sunday, September 6.
“Sometimes the greatest love story is… the one you may have just missed,” that is what the movie’s tagline read as it navigates through the dynamics between JM and Fyang’s characters, who are bestfriends.
According to the description previously provided by the studios, the film asks “Why do we sometimes reach for the distant when the one who loves us most is right here?“
It is also described as a “story of modern love shaped by fandom, social media, and the fear of losing someone you hold dear.”
Director Dan Villegas, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Angel Tomas, marks his return to the romantic-comedy genre through this film. Some of his known works in the genre include English Only, Please; Always Be My Maybe; and How To Be Yours.
Meanwhile, also part of this project are Yuki Takahashi, Sam Samarita, JM Salvador, Baus Rufo, Che Ramos, and Lotlot Bustamante, with the special participation of Dustin Yu.
Almost Us marks their first lead roles in a big screen project. It follows their inclusion in the ensemble of the movie Shake, Rattle and Roll: Evil Origins, which screened at the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival in 2025.
Prior to these, they have also showcased their acting skills through the digital drama series Ghosting, which served as the banner show of ABS-CBN’s streaming platform iWant from July to December 2025.
Meanwhile, JM and Fyang were both recently seen on streaming platforms through the series Love Is Never Gone on Prime Video and the iWant microdrama series Will You Fake Marry Me?
