With the movie also fresh from its latest international win.
Last Thursday, August 27, the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry Call Me Mother, which is top-billed by Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre and directed by Jun Robles Lana, made its premiere on Netflix.
The said film, which follows the characters of Twinkle (Vice), Mara (Nadine), and Angelo (Lucas Andalio), has consistently ranked first on the streaming platform’s list of most-watched movies in the Philippines.
The comedy-drama movie sees Twinkle act as the queer mother to her adoptive son Angelo. However, their bond would be shaken by the return of Mara, the child’s biological mother—who attempts to take custody of her son.
A production of Star Cinema, The IdeaFirst Company, and Viva Films, it marked the reunion of lead stars Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre, who previously worked together in Beauty and the Bestie in 2015 and as co-hosts on It’s Showtime in 2017.
Also part of this movie are River Joseph, Klarisse De Guzman, Shuvee Etrata, Mika Salamanca, Esnyr Ranollo, Brent Manalo, John “Sweet Lapus, Iyah Minah, Lassy, and Divine Tetay, among others.
The movie won four awards at the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival Gabi ng Parangal, when it was hailed as the 3rd Best Picture of the edition, helped Vice Ganda win her first Best Actor award, a Best Child Performer award for Lucas Andalio, and the Gender Sensitivity Award.
Recently, it was also declared the Silver winner for Best Feature Film or Telemovie Made in Asia at the ContentAsia Awards 2026.
The film posted a worldwide gross of PHP392 million and was selected as the opening film for the Philippines-Japan Film Festival 2026 last February, where Vice and Jun’s prior collaboration, And The Breadwinner Is,“ was also screened.
