The actress makes her return to the Philippines to promote her upcoming animated movie.
In a post on Instagram, actress Liza Soberano shared her thoughts and conveyed her emotions after joining the Philippine promotions of the upcoming animated movie, Forgotten Island, where she voiced the character of Jo.
The 28-year-old shared, “There’s something extra special about getting to come home and share this film with the Philippines.”
Her past few days in Manila, she told, have been filled with yummy food, jeepney rides, interviews, conversations, familiar faces, and finally getting to share Forgotten Island with some members of the press and public.
“It’s been so nice being back home and feeling all the love and excitement for Forgotten Island!!!” Soberano furthered.
Liza also told that the film is a special project to be part of because of what it represents.
“To be part of DreamWorks’ first original Filipino story and to see our culture, our people, and pieces of home represented on this scale is something I’ll always be proud of. I hope this is just the beginning of seeing more Filipino stories told and celebrated around the world!!“
Thanking everyone who joined them for the screening, which also saw the participation of her fellow lead voice artist H.E.R., the actress conveyed her excitement for the rest of the world to see Forgotten Island and “experience this story for themselves.”
“Always feels good to be home,” Liza concluded her post.
Also part of the star-studded cast of Forgotten Island are Filipina Broadway Diva Lea Salonga, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy, Dave Franco, and Jenny Slate.
As per the synopsis provided, the film will revolve around the friendship of Jo and Raissa. “While celebrating their last night together, Jo and Raissa stumble upon a mysterious portal that transports them to the fantastical island of Nakali, packed with magical and mythological creatures they grew up hearing stories about from their Filipino families.“
“Some of these figures will become friends, some foes,” continued the studio. “Joined by well-meaning-but- hapless weredog Raww and a small-but-mighty pack of pals, Jo and Raissa must face The Dreaded Manananggal, the most feared creature on the island.“
The film is written and directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, and produced by Mark Swift, who are the filmmaking team behind Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
The movie is set to be distributed by Universal Pictures and will hit theaters in September 2026.
