This marks very first anchor shake-up for the newscast, which has been running for almost five years.
On Monday, August 10, TV5’s Frontline Tonight officially reintroduced itself as it embraced a brand new era of the program.
Kapatid Senate correspondent Meanne Los Baños-Oroceo and showbiz presenter Jannie Alipo-on officially welcomed to the family longtime news anchor and musician Lourd de Veyra.
Right after the new opening billboard (OBB), the first of the number of changes implemented during the pilot episode was immediately seen.
This, as the three presenters stood as they tackled the “Trending Video of the Day,” which saw a video of piling up along the waterway near Baclaran in Parañaque City as the monsoon-induced rains continued throughout the day.
For that segment, anchors had a quick banter as they both expressed their sentiments regarding the matter, which included a reminder for people to properly dispose their waste.
Onto the rest of the program, a more conversational approach was also implemented to present news items and discuss the pressing matters of the day.
Lourd also brought with him his long-running social commentary segment Word Of The Lourd, which traces its roots back to TV5’s pioneering late-evening newscast TEN: The Evening News that launched in 2008.
Jannie, meanwhile, also presented her News5 Feature segment, on top of dishing out the biggest entertainment stories.
FRONTLINE TONIGHT IN A NUTSHELL
Frontline Tonight was introduced in September 2021, marking TV5’s return to producing a newscast on the slot after Aksyon Tonite ended its nearly five-year run in 2019 as the network pivoted heavily to sports, and later, outsourcing content from Cignal’s One News to fill airtime.
Originally, it was only anchored by Ed Lingao and Meanne, with Frontline Tonight gaining prominence among viewers for its insights and analysis of the day’s biggest news.
Ed presented the News ExplainED segment that breaks down the biggest news stories of the day, while Meanne also bringing her expertise in Senate affairs to break some of the biggest news shaping the institution.
In 2023, their tandem would later welcome Jannie Alipo-on into the family as the showbiz presenter, a role she also previously did with TV5’s defunct noontime newscast Aksyon Sa Tanghali.
Currently, the late-evening newscast airs from 10:15 to 10:45 pm each weekday evening on TV5.
