It marks the end of an era for the Kapatid newscast.
On Friday, August 7, seasoned journalist Ed Lingao appeared in his final edition as a permanent anchor of the TV5 late-evening newscast Frontline Tonight.
In the final segment of the program, which is usually reserved for viral and quirky videos and news items, the entire team behind the show gave him a special farewell, complete with a cake brought by showbiz new presenter Jannie Alipo-on that has playful dedication that read: “Hindi ka namin mami-miss! You will miss us, Bok!“
The crew also prepared a special video that looked back on some of the highlight of Bok Ed’s almost five-year-run with the program, such as the time when he and co-anchor Maeanne Los Baños played lato-lato live on air, with her and Alipo-on also reminiscing some of their other favorite moments with Lingao.
The Kapatid Senate correspondent also turned emotional as she expressed her pride of having co-presented the newscast with Bok Ed, which is also her first stint as a permanent anchor in a newscast.
“Hindi ka namin mami-miss. Pero, mami-miss na miss na miss ka namin,” she also said to her outgoing partner in the program.
Ed Lingao’s departure from Frontline Tonight comes amid another round of shake-up within TV5’s news programming.
On the same day as his departure, the morning show Gud Morning Kapatid has aired its final episode under its current name.
This, as the show presented by the company of Andrei Felix, Angela Lagunzad-Castro, Chiqui Roa-Puno, Dimples Romana, and more, will formally go back to its roots as Frontline Sa Umaga starting Monday, August 10.
Lingao has been confirmed to be joining the squad, with the segments of GuMoKa all expected to be carried over to the new FSU, which is effectively getting upgraded from a segment of the morning show.
Meanwhile, replacing Bok Ed on Tonight is another long-time Kapatid news personality, Lourd de Veyra, who was officially announced the week prior as the person taking over his chair on late-evenings, also beginning on August 10.
Frontline Sa Umaga will air 5:30 to 8:00 am, while Frontline Tonight will broadcast from 10:15 to 10:45 pm every weekday on TV5.
