She is the singer behind one of the biggest hits of the ’80s.
In a post on her Facebook page, the team of Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler made a somber announcement as they confirmed her passing at the age of 75.
The said statement reads as follows: “Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.“
The team also said that they will issue another statement in due course, but asked for privacy for the bereaved family and friends “to deal with this tragedy.”
Prior to this news, it was back in May when they announced that she had to undergo an “emergency intestinal surgery” in Portugal, where the music icon has a home. At that time, they said that “the surgery went well” and she is already recuperating.
Tyler’s crew would later issue another statement and noted that she is “seriously ill, but stable” and that the doctors are confident about her recovery.
Last June 15, another statement that the team made on social media noted that Bonnie is no longer in coma, but she remained “very unwell” as she received intensive care in the hospital.
Bonnie Tyler first gained fame through her single entitled It’s A Heartache, which came out in 1977. That song went to number 3 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Chart.
It would later be followed by an even more massive hits in Total Eclipse of the Heart in 1983, which was both critically and commercially well-received, and Holding Out For A Hero.
Prior to her passing, the icon released what is now her final single, which is called Only Love, last March.
