In a post on his social media pages on Monday, June 22, director Lino Cayetano, who currently serves as the general manager of the People’s Television Network, Inc. (PTV), announced his first three official orders as chief of the network.

According to him, these directives are guided by a single mandate, which is “to bring PTV and its services closer and more relevant to the lives of the Filipino people.”

These orders follow the two-week assessment and review we conducted upon turnover, which gave us the basis for a more deliberate, informed, and inclusive plan moving forward,” added the former Taguig City Mayor.

First on the table for him is the review and realignment of the channel’s programming grid, which at present leans heavily into news and public affairs, as well as government instructionals and materials.

He told, “We are ordering a review of PTV’s program grid across all platforms, led by a constituted panel, to strengthen our news and public affairs and expand into educational, cultural, and developmental content and disaster preparedness — building on the talent and experience already within PTV, and giving our people greater value, support, and resources.

Another area where he is seeking improvement is the DTT (Digital Terrestrial Television) and Multichannel Development, as well as Online platforms such as social media.

We are creating a task force to activate new DTT and digital channels, broaden our social media reach, strengthen regional content, and forge stronger partnerships with national government departments and agencies, LGUs, NGOs, and private partners, including other content providers so we can bring PTV to Filipinos wherever they are,” furthered Cayetano.

Lastly, he also pushes for the “empowerment” of employees in the government-owned TV station and announced his immediate endorsement of the 15-year-old PTV Reorganization Plan.

We are forming a committee to review all positions and the plantilla. This will run parallel to our immediate endorsement of the PTV Reorganization Plan, which has been pending for the past 15 years,” said the general manager.

“Direk Lino” continued, “Anchored on the talented, hardworking men and women already within PTV, we will work to capacitate them and move toward industry-level compensation.

The new chief of Channel 4 also said that at the same time, PTV will be partnering with the academe and the private sector to attract fresh talent, which he said will help build a “stronger team that honors those who have long served PTV and prepares the network for the future.”

Together, these orders address content, reach, and institution — strengthening PTV’s direction, expanding its delivery, and building its capacity to serve you, the Filipino people, as a stronger, more sustainable, and more progressive national public broadcaster,” concluded Cayetano..

Prior to this, the PTV general manager also announced that the station will enter into partnerships with commercial broadcasters ABS-CBN, GMA, and TV5, whom, he said, have reached out to help the state broadcaster.
