Galaxy Manila Marathon takes over EDSA; organizers to donate P1 million to quake victims in General Santos

From being what could be the busiest road of the country, EDSA will be transformed into a long course on Friday, June 12, as the Galaxy Manila Marathon takes place from the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City to SM North EDSA in Quezon City.

The Race Village at the MOA Concert Grounds will first welcome runners and supporters, with race categories including the full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K distances.

The entire length, which is a 42-kilometer route, gives runners a rare opportunity to over 25,000 runners of the Galaxy Manila Marathon as they will race through the heart of Metro Manila, with the organizers looking to make it a “celebration of endurance, community, and national pride.”

Running has become one of the fastest-growing sports in the Philippines, bringing together communities across the country,” said Steven Tan, President of SM Supermalls, thr official mall partner of the event. “With the Manila Marathon, we’re transforming EDSA into the nation’s biggest running stage. This is more than a race. It’s a defining moment for Philippine running.”

Tbe Galaxy Manila Marathon, which is organized by RunRio, is being positioned as the gold standard for local marathons by combining a world-class race experience and scale.

SM Supermalls also noted that the Galaxy Manila Marathon is part of its broader vision to make sports more accessible and inclusive for Filipinos nationwide through its SM Active Hub initiative.

Hence, with SM also serving co-presenter of the Philippine Marathon Majors 2026, the country’s largest marathon series, both the chain and RunRio will bring seven major races across different cities in the Philippines throughout the year.

Due to the events in Mindanao on Monday, June 8, RunRio is also turning the Galaxy Manila Marathon into an opportunity to provide meaningful support where it is needed most.

The company will donate PHP 1 million from the proceeds of the Galaxy Manila Marathon to the Philippine Red Cross to help families and communities affected by the disaster.

Meanwhile, Dr. Gwendolyn Pang, Secretary General of Philippine Red Cross said in response to that, “Every donation plays a vital role in helping communities recover after a disaster. We are grateful to Runrio, for coming together in support of families affected by the General Santos earthquake.

This contribution will help strengthen ongoing relief and recovery efforts and bring much-needed assistance to those impacted by the disaster,” she added.
