Offering them a convent park and ride option.
Starting Monday, May 25, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) launches its complimentary parking service at the Legarda station of LRT-2 in Manila.
The move is in response to the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., whl encourages vehicle owners to use public transportation amid the rising oil prices.
Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez noted that the program goes beyond providing free parking.
It is also designed to ease traffic congestion, help vehicle owners save on fuel, and reduce the overall transportation costs and travel time of daily commuters.
“Malaking tulong po itong libreng parking fee dahil talagang makakatipid ang ating mga pasahero kaysa kumonsumo sila ng gasolina o diesel, at mapapabilis din ang kanilang byahe patungo sa kanilang pupuntahan,” Lopez said.
The free parking will be available for LRT-2 passengers daily from 4:00 am to 11:30 pm on a first-come, first-served basis.
To avail of the free parking, passengers must get a parking stub from LRTA security personnel at the parking area and have it validated at the Passenger Assistance Office (PAO) upon arrival at their destination station.
The validated stub must be presented to security personnel upon exit.
Passengers are reminded to park only in designated spaces, keep their vehicles locked at all times and avoid leaving valuables inside their cars.
The Legarda station free parking follows the LRTA’s first complimentary parking at Santolan station in Marikina which was launched last April 21.
