The film follows the lives of four Filipinas who became entertainers in Japan to provide for their family back home.
In a post on her Instagram account, actress Loisa Andalio shared her insights about the film Midnight Girls, which she stars in alongside Jodi Sta. Maria, Jane Oineza, and Sanya Lopez.
Shot in Japan, the film, she told, “reminds us to look beyond what we see on the surface.”
“Minsan..mabilis tayong manghusga ng ibang tao without really knowing the pain, sacrifices, and struggles behind everything they go through,” she continued.
Loisa also noted how the movie, at its core, focuses on the story of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), who are forced by their situation to seek work outside the country and far from their families.
“Isa rin itong kwento ng maraming Pilipino na napipilitang mangibang-bansa at mawalay sa pamilya dahil sa hirap ng buhay at kakulangan ng oportunidad dito sa atin… Ito ay kwento ng realidad kung saan hindi lahat may privilege na piliin ang buhay na gusto nila,” she wrote.
“May mga taong napipilitang magsakripisyo, tumanda agad, at isantabi ang sariling pangarap para mabuhay at maitaguyod ang pamilya,” the Kapamilya star added. “Mga taong araw-araw ginagawa ang kanilang best para mag-survive-mga taong may pangarap din, napapagod, nasasaktan, at nawawala rin minsan, pero patuloy na bumabangon at lumalaban para sa sarili nila at sa mga mahal nila sa buhay.“
“Sa mundong mapang-husga, sana mas piliin nating maging mabuti, maunawain, at may empathy sa isa’t isa,” Andalio underscored.
To end, she said that she is grateful to be part of this “beautiful film and journey with such talented people.”
Under the direction of Irene Emma Villamor, Midnight Girls is screening in cinemas nationwide.
