It is her last tournament before participating in the upcoming French Open.
After taking a short break, Filipina tennis star Alex Eala returned to the clay court on Monday, May 18 to compete in the Strasbourg Open in France.
There, she faced off with Ukrainian player Oleksandra Oliynykova in the qualifiers of the WTA 500 tournament.
Eala, who is now world no. 38 according to the Women’s Tennis Association’s latest index, tried her best to keep her world no. 66 opponent at bay in the first set—an effort that paid off as she won it with six games versus three.
But that early dominance was challenged by the second set, with Oliynykova making a strong rebound to push the match to a deciding round.
Despite aiming for the best, the match closed with Eala making an early exit from the tourney, with scores reading 6-3, 5-7, 3-6, in favor of the European tennis player.
With this development, Alex is now setting her sights next on the upcoming French Open, which is yet another major tournament coming up for her, which happens May 24 to June 7 in Paris.
