He will handle the flagship convention center of the group.
On Monday, May 4, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation (SMHCC), the hospitality arm of SM Prime Holdings Inc., announced the appointment of Sherwin Lucas as the General Manager of SMX Convention Center Manila.
He will also be in charge of SMXCITE (SMX Center for International Trade and Exhibitions), which is company’s new venue that is slated to open in 2027 within the Mall of Asia Complex.
Lucas previously served within the SMHCC as the Area General Manager of Park Inn by Radisson Iloilo and Park Inn by Radisson Bacolod since 2021.
He began his career as an Operations Supervisor at Olympia Courtyard Suites before advancing through key leadership roles across international markets.
Prior to joining SM Hotels and Conventions, he served as Director of Events Service at Sheraton Grand Macao and The St. Regis Macao, where he received the APAC Regional Event Leadership Award in 2016.
He also holds degrees in Commerce from the University of Muntinlupa and the University of the Philippines, further strengthened by extensive international training in leadership and management, which is an educational and professional foundation that reflects his strategic and operational depth as a leader.
With over two decades of leadership in the hospitality industry, he brings his expertise to the SMX brand to continuously elevate its presence both locally and internationally.
“In my new role, I am committed to lead SMX Convention Center Manila’s continued growth by driving excellence across operations, innovation, and exceptional client experiences, while helping reinforce its leadership as the Philippines’ largest convention center operator and a key force in the M.I.C.E. industry,” said Sherwin Lucas in the press statement issued by the company.
He furthered, “I also look forward to help shape the successful opening and establishment of SMXCITE in 2027, ensuring its positioning as a world-class hub for international trade, exhibitions, and large-scale events that will further strengthen the Philippines’ role in the global MICE landscape.”
With his appointment, SM Hotels and Conventions Corporation is looking to reaffirm its commitment to advancing world-class M.I.C.E. destinations in the Philippines and strengthening its portfolio of convention and exhibition venues.
All seen to contribute to the continued growth of the country’s business tourism industry.
The SMX Convention Center is heralded as the “premier venue for meetings and events in the country” with over 42,000 sq.m. of leasable space.
Under the flagship of SMX Manila are SMX Aura, SMX Bacolod, SMX Davao, Olongapo City Convention Center, SMX Clark, and two Trade Halls namely, Megatrade Hall inside SM Megamall and Sky Hall Seaside Cebu.
