Two of the country’s biggest stars are vocal about them wanting for her to reconsider her earlier decision to not pursue the Presidency for a second try.
In her interview with members of the press, Asia’s Unkabogable Superstar, Vice Ganda, was asked about who she will be supporting in the forthcoming Presidential elections a little over two years from today.
“Well, I’m still rooting for Leni,” said Vice, which was reported by the Philippine Star. “Marami namang nagsabi na kung sila lang, hindi na sila tatakbo, pero dahil sa clamor at sa kagustuhan nilang makapagsilbi,” added the TV host-comedian, who referenced previous pronouncements of those who ran in past polls that made a switch the last minute.
“Kasi ang desisyon ng pagtakbo at pagiging pangulo ay hindi naman desisyon para sa sarili. Kaya maraming tao ang naiiba ’yung desisyon nila kasi nare-realize nilang this is not just about me.”
Vice’s comment also comes days after she made an on-air joke on noontime show It’s Showtime, when she quipped that she is going to “convince” her to reconsider a Presidential bid.
Meanwhile, on her Instagram account, Megastar Sharon Cuneta also weighed in on the matter. The 60-year-old showbiz icon is the wife of Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, who ran as Robredo’s Vice President back in 2022.
In her lengthy caption, Cuneta wrote, “Dearest Ma’am Leni, PLEASE RECONSIDER… You are the one who can unite these different parties. You have proven na ipaglalaban niyo ang PILIPINAS…”
She continued, “Sana lang napagbigyan kayo noong 2022… Please choose a great VP, ideally from where you will garner more support than ever before, and Kiko and I will go all-out for you po,” hinting that there could be a new team-up should Robredo consider running anew.
The actress-singer-host also said that a lot of people, specifically Kakampinks, that are rooting for Mayor Robredo to run again and are ready to mobilize should she indeed pursue a path that could lead her to Malacañang again.
“Ma’am, mas madami na pong di hamak na umaasa sa inyo ngayon… Please, Ma’am Leni. We are all storming the heavens with our prayers for you to change your mind and run once more-just one more time po Ma’am, for President,” wrote Sharon.
“Naghihintay lang po kaming lahat Ma’am, mga kakampink noon at mga naging kakampink na ngayon. Mahal na mahal po namin kayo at patuloy na naniniwala sa katapatan at abilidad ninyo na patakbuhin at alagaan ang ating bansa. Support is gathering for you more than ever. Just say the word, Ma’am…“
She even said that her son, Miguel, would personally visit Mayor Leni in Naga just to convince her to run as President again.
At present, Mayor Robredo has not yet issued a comment about Vice and Sharon’s statements.
In a prior interview, the politician said in Bicolano that she is not running fot a national position and would instead pursue another term in her hometown.
“I am certain about myself that I will no longer run for any national position,” she said, adding that there are multiple personalities that could rally and unite the opposition as its standard bearer for the next polls—naming the likes of Senators Rise Hontiveros and Bam Aquino, as well as Mayors Joy Belmonte and Vico Sotto as possible figures that could do that.
