As she also recharges herself after her successive competitions in the past few weeks.
Contrary to earlier reports, Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala is not competing in the Catalonia Open this year.
The current world no. 44 will not be seeing action in the said WTA 125 tournament as she has opted to head straight to the upcoming 2026 Italian Open (Internazionali BNL d’Italia), will take place from May 5 to 17.
Eala is expected to compete in the stacked 96-player singles draw that includes several tennis stars, led by Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Madison Keys.
The Rome competition, a WTA 1000 tournament, is one of the final major tournaments in the calendar before the French Open this June—where Alex is also expected to participate in.
For now, Alex is taking this moment for a short break and even shared a glimpse of her bonding with friends and family in Spain, where she recently competed in the Madrid Open.
In the said tournament, she lost in the singles to Elise Mertens of Belgium, while bowed out of the doubles competition with partner Zeynep Sönmez after their defeat in the match opposite the powerful tandem of Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova.
