On Saturday, April 18, Madlang People rejoiced as the Unkabogable Phenomenal Box-Office Superstar Vice Ganda has made her return to ABS-CBN’s noontime variety program It’s Showtime after more than a month.
To mark her return, she turned up and dressed herself as her character Girlie from the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy, which recently made rounds on social media.
Aside from her, members of the audience inside the studio also dressed up in the iconic zebra-striped top and pink skirt of the movie character.
The Showtime Online U squad even took it up a notch as hosts AC Soriano, JM dela Cerna, Marielle Montellabo, and Lorraine Galvez channeled Girlie, as well as the Vice’s other roles in the film: Peter, Mark, and Panying, respectively.
During the opening banter between the hosts, Vice reacted to the virality of the movie in the past weeks.
“Nakakaloka. Biglang nagresurface ang mga videos ni Girlie,” she exclaimed.
Vhong Navarro then answered, “S’yempre. Kasi ganun ka na-miss ng ating madlang people.”
“Ganun n’yo ako na-miss o gano’n kayo ka-bagot sa life? Talagang inamats n’yo yung luma kong pelikula!” replied Vice.
Anyhow, she is grateful for the support that the movie received from viewers and told, “Maraming maraming salamat sa lahat ng naka-appreciate ngayon pa lang ng Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy! That was shown 13 years ago.”
Navarro then quipped that fans are requesting for a sequel, but Vice lightly declined doing one as she recalled how hard it was to do the four lead characters in the film.
The renewed popularity of the Wenn Deramas creation happened during the Holy Week break, with Girlie‘s now famous line: “Goodness gracious. Ikaw ‘yung nag-shoplift!”
Since then, Star Cinema’s upload of full-length feature film even gained over 2 million views in the past week, with it now having more than 7 million views in total, as of this writing.
The story follows long-separated quadruplets Girlie, Peter, Mark, and Panying (all played by Vice Ganda) whose worlds will collide after Peter asks for Mark’s liver for his transplant.
This will then led to the riotous dynamics between the siblings, who are children of Pia (Maricel Soriano) and Pete (Joey Marquez) in the movie.
During its original theatrical run, it grossed over PHP421 million in the box-office, which made it the highest grossing Filipino movie of all-time for a time.
