A welcome development after weeks of consistent mega oil price hikes.
On Sunday, April 12, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that a major rollback in fuel prices will take effect on Tuesday, April 14.
According to him, diesel is set to drop by more than PHP20 per liter, gasoline by over PHP4 per liter, and kerosene by more than PHP8 per liter, with the Department of Energy previously disclosing such figures in another statement by its Secretary Sharon Garin.
Meanwhile, the Chief Executive said the price cuts are part of broader efforts to cushion the impact of rising oil prices, adding that more measures and assistance programs will be rolled out in the coming days to further reduce transportation, food, and living expenses nationwide.
PBBM noted the price cut would be a big help to drivers, commuters, and Filipino families affected by high crude oil prices, but acknowledged that the price reduction is not sufficient—emphasizing that the government will continue to look for ways to ease the daily burden.
“Hindi pa ito sapat. Kaya tuloy-tuloy ang ginagawa ng pamahalaan para maibsan ang epekto nito sa inyong pang-araw-araw na buhay,” he said. “Hindi po tayo titigil hangga’t hindi natin napapababa ang gastos sa biyahe, sa pagkain, at sa kabuuang pamumuhay ng ating mga kababayan.”
In the coming days, President Marcos said an announcement will be made for additional assistance from the government.
“Sa mga susunod na araw at linggo, may iaanunsyo po ako na mga dagdag na hakbang at tulong mula sa gobyerno. Hindi natin hahayaang mapabayaan ang bawat Pilipino sa gitna ng mga hamong ito,” the President told.
He continued, “Kaya tuloy-tuloy ang trabaho ng pamahalaan para siguradong may mararamdaman na ginhawa ang bawat pamilya. At iyan ang tinututukan natin araw-araw.”
This development comes days after the temporary truce between the United States and Israel, and Iran was brokered by Pakistan.
