AirAsia international flights switch to NAIA T1; six airlines reassigned to T3

A major move in the midst of the Holy Week peak travel period.

A major move in the midst of the Holy Week peak travel period.

On Sunday, March 29, the New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) executed the previously announced switch of airlines within the international terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

According to them, this transfer will optimize terminal operations, improve efficiency, and elevate the overall passenger journey across the airport.

Effective on the said date, Shenzhen Airlines, Royal Brunei Airlines, Air China, Vietnam Airlines, and China Eastern will shift from their base at Terminal 1 to Terminal 3.

In return, the international flights of AirAsia Philippines (Z2) and Malaysia AirAsia (AK) flights will transfer from Terminal 3 to Terminal 1. However, domestic AirAsia services remain unaffected and will continue to be in Terminal 2.

in its press statement, the regional budget carrier said both operators are fully prepared to support the anticipated surge in travel during the Holy Week period.

AirAsia Philippines CEO and President Capt. Suresh Bangah shared, “We are excited about this transition as it is designed with our guests’ convenience in mind. With our international flights moving to Terminal 1 and our domestic operations currently at Terminal 2, both terminals will now be in closer proximity to each other.

He continued, “This allows guests with connecting flights to enjoy a seamless and efficient transfer experience, with shorter distances and easier access between connections. This also comes at an important time for the Holy Week, ensuring we are ready to support the travel surge during this time.”

For those who are in need to transfer from one terminal to another, the NNIC also offers a 24-hour free Inter-Terminal Shuttle Bus service connecting Terminals 1, 2, and 3, with 15- to 30-minute intervals, with passengers simply required to present a valid boarding pass.

To provide guests with seamless, round the clock service, the airline  has deployed additional manpower and implemented 24/7 check-in counters,” also noted AirAsia. “The airline also advises its guests to arrive at the airport ahead of their scheduled departure and carefully check their travel details including terminal assignments to ensure a smooth travel experience.

Meanwhile, on April 1, Japan Airlines will be the next to move out of Terminal 1 for a slot in Terminal 3.

Notably, the major shifts are happening as the remaining turboprop flights of Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific’s Cebgo and AirSwift cease in NAIA on the same day and move to airports like the Clark International Airport and Mactan-Cebu International Airport.
