She is making her way to the next round of the competition.
On Sunday, March 22 (Manila time), Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala returned to the hard court in the “Sunshine State” as she competed in the Round of 32 at the Miami Open 2026.
The said match follows her earlier victory against Germany’s Laura Siegemund in the Round of 64 last Thursday, March 19.
This time, she faced off with Polish netter Magda Linette, who has a strong credential in the tournament after ousting reigning Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek.
The first set of the Eala-Linette bout saw the Pinay player acing the game, thanks to errors committed by her opponent.
That momentum would then be carried over to the next set, but it seemed that the Poland rep would not go down without making most of the match and she did, as Magda put herself toe-to-toe with Alex, forcing it to a tiebreaker.
Eventually, the 20-year-old would be able to crack her second win in the tournament, with the final scores reading 6-3, 7-6(2).
With this victory, the world no. 29 is now set to face the world no. 14, Karolina Muchova, in the Round of 16 on Monday, March 23 (Manila time).
