The two former child actors have teamed up for the project.
Last Thursday, March 12, streaming giant Netflix Philippines dropped the official trailer for its upcoming original movie entitled 18th Rose.
The said period drama film is set in Romblon in the 2000s and follows the characters of Rose and Jordan, who are portrayed by Xyriel Manabat and Kyle Echarri, respectively.
The story sees their lives intertwine as the leading lady, who is a native in the town, meets the Filipino-American leading man who is looking for his father.
In exchange of helping him, Rose asks Jordan to help fund her debut to mark her 18th birthday. But more than preparing for the dress, dance, and the “perfect night,” it also becomes a journey for them to discover how to navigate growing up and chasing one’s dreams, no matter the cost.
Directed by Dolly Dulu, who co-wrote the screenplay with John Carlo Pacala, the film is set to make its premiere on Netflix this April 9.
18th Rose is one of the original local productions lined up for Netflix this year, which include titles like BuyBust: The Undesirables and Balaraw, among many others.
According to Netflix, over 90% of its members in the Philippines watched local content.
Hence, after 10 years of being present in the Philippines, the 2026 slate marks the start of a new chapter, which it said is “bigger in ambition, deeper in creative partnerships, and unmistakably Filipino at its core.”
Vitto Lazatin, Netflix’s Content Lead for the Philippines and Director of Content Licensing for Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, shared: “We are excited to continue growing alongside the industry, strengthening partnerships, and supporting more ambitious ideas from script to screen.“
He added, “We continue to bring Filipino stories to the global stage, working with a wide range of creators to showcase the breadth, ambition, and diversity of Filipino storytelling. We are confident viewers will enjoy the varied stories coming to their screens this year, and the many more we look forward to bringing their way.”
Aside from these titles, already confirmed to be streaming on Netflix are the upcoming ABS-CBN series Someone, Someday and the GMA action drama The Master Cutter.
