It has issued a response on the matter.
In a post on other platforms, social networking giant Tumblr has shared a statement in response to the blockage of its services in the Philippines.
The statement read, “we’re heartbroken that users in the Philippines are currently unable to access Tumblr. We are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it.“
They continued, “Tumblr is a space for people of every nationality, background, identity, and point of view. We hope to share a positive update soon.”
This comment comes days after users in the Philippines shared through various digital forums and sites that the main Tumblr portal, as well as its attached subdomains, are either not loading or would send them to a page that displayed a notice from the government.
In particular, the message came from the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Council (CICC), with the banner written in all capital letters: “ACCESS RESTRICTED.”
Below that, the rationale was disclosed, which read, “This website is not licensed by Philippine authorities. Many users have reported scams, fake games and lost monet that could not be recovered.“
“Unlicensed gambling sites offer no government protection. Any money you lose cannoy be returned, and your personal data may ne at risk,” added the agency, which also listed the approved sites of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
Recognizant of the concerns raised by the public, the CICC told on Wednesday, March 11, that it is currently investigating the series of reports raised by concerned citizens online regarding the blocking of microblogging and social networking platform Tumblr in the Philippines.
“The CICC assures that this matter is being reviewed with priority, and we will provide further updates once the investigation is completed,” it added.
