The website has been allegedly blocked by the government.
In various social media forums in the past day, netizens trying to access the popular social networking platform Tumblr in the Philippines shared that they have encountered difficulty doing so.
Users noted that the main portal, as well as its attached subdomains, are either not loading or would send them to a page that displayed a notice from the government.
In particular, the message came from the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Council (CICC), with the banner written in all capital letters: “ACCESS RESTRICTED.”
Below that, the rationale was disclosed, which read, “This website is not licensed by Philippine authorities. Many users have reported scams, fake games and lost monet that could not be recovered.“
“Unlicensed gambling sites offer no government protection. Any money you lose cannoy be returned, and your personal data may ne at risk,” added the agency, which also listed the approved sites of the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
As soon as the blockage of the social networking site was brought to light, many users took to other platforms to express their sentiments over this matter.
On X (formerly Twitter), netizens were divided on whether they were able to access the service or not, with some sharing that they are still able to enter Tumblr as per usual, including the application.
Although many have noted that it is no longer working for them, may it be on web or app.
As of this writing, the CICC, its parent agency, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), other government units, and the management of Tumblr itself have not yet commented on the matter.
INTENSIFIED ANTI-ILLEGAL ONLINE GAMBLING MEASURES
Meanwhile, last March 4, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center launched a massive, nationwide crackdown on illegal online gambling operations by mobilizing an inter-agency alliance.
The CICC joined forces with the Philippine National Police – Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG), the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), and advocacy group Digital Pinoys to dismantle illicit platforms that have proliferated under the guise of providing financial stability—but instead have led many Filipinos into a cycle of addiction and significant monetary loss.
The Philippine authorities said they have long been receiving and monitoring online gaming activities nationwide due to the surge in the usage of these digital gambling platforms in the country.
Results from the CICC’s Action Center data also showed that between January to March 1, 2026, the CICC have logged a total of 1,891 reports involving Illegal Online Gambling.
Hence, the CICC formally turned over crucial intelligence dossiers, which will serve as the roadmap for swift, tactical operations to neutralize the primary sources of these illegal networks, to Police Brigadier General Wilson Asueta of the PNP-ACG to start the crackdown
Under this multi-agency framework, the CICC warns that not only the operators, but also those involved in the promotion of illegal gambling sites, will face rigorous investigation and will be held legally accountable under the law.
In recent days, they have also actively named personalities and pages that are linked to promoting illegal gambling sites as part of the intensified measures.
The CICC has also urged the public to strongly urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online gambling activities, fake betting sites, or promotional scams to the Action Center Hotline 1326 for immediate verification and response.
CICC ISSUES STATEMENT
Following the concerns raised by social media users, the CICC has issued the following statement on Wednesday.
“The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) is currently investigating the series of reports raised by concerned citizens online regarding the alleged blocking of microblogging and social networking platform Tumblr in the Philippines. The CICC assures that this matter is being reviewed with priority, and we will provide further updates once the investigation is completed.“
