Coinciding with the 77th anniversary of bilateral relations between both nations.
On Friday, February 27, Malacañan Palace announced that upon the invitation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., his South Korean counterpart Lee Jae Myung will be visiting the Philippines next Tuesday and Wednesday (March 3 and 4).
According to the Palace, Marcos, Jr. and First Lady Liza Marcos will welcome President Lee and First Lady Kim Hea Kyung.
“Ito ang kauna-unahang pagbisita ni President Lee sa Pilipinas at kauna-unahang State Visit matapos maging epektibo ang Free Trade Agreement o FTA sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Republic of Korea (ROK) noong December 31, 2024,” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said.
During the visit, the two leaders are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting to discuss cooperation in areas like defense, maritime cooperation, economic and development collaboration, and people-to-people ties.
They are also expected to exchange views on regional and international issues and reaffirm the vibrant and dynamic relations between the Philippines and the ROK.
Prior to this visit, President Marcos and President Lee had already met on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Gyeongju in October 2025.
Castro also noted that the visit coincides with the 77th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and South Korea in March 1949.
