Recently, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the Quezon City government signed two memorandums of agreement (MOAs) that will pave the way for rental housing for informal settler families (ISFs).

Under these, the DHSUD will support the construction of medium-rise buildings within areas in Sauyo and Bagong Silangan districts, which were identified by the Quezon City LGU for rental housing modality under the Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program.

These projects are intended to benefit around 2,900 individuals living along waterways and danger zones, with necessary utility systems such as roads, power, drainage, and water distribution to be included in the said projects.

The DHSUD and the Quezon City government are now finalizing details of the two rental housing projects, the media release read.

The first rental housing project under the Expanded 4PH Program is the Marilag Residences located in UP Diliman Campus—seen to benefit at least 3,000 individuals—with initial site works having started.

Apart from the three rental housing projects in Quezon City, similar project modalities are slated to start soon in the cities of Victorias and Iloilo in the Visayas.

The DHSUD chief stressed that Expanded 4PH also has housing modalities for the working class, through its attached agency Pag-IBIG Fund which offers the lowest interest rate for beneficiaries.
