Through a social media post, Philippines’ President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. expressed his congratulatory message to Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who was re-elected following the snap elections held last February 8.
Marcos said her decisive electoral victory, as well as her fellow members in the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), was a strong mandate from the Japanese people.
“A landslide victory and a powerful mandate from the Japanese people. Congratulations to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on this historic win 🇯🇵,” the Filipino chief executive wrote.
President Marcos reaffirmed Japan’s role as a close friend and trusted partner of the Philippines, and noted that its “leadership plays a vital role in the region.”
Furthermore, he said that Manila looks forward to working closely with Tokyo’s leadership to further strengthen cooperation and regional partnership.
“As ASEAN Chair, we look forward to working closely with your government to strengthen our partnership and move forward together in advancing stability, cooperation, and shared growth across the Indo-Pacific 🇵🇭🤝🇯🇵,” said President Marcos.
On Friday morning, Takaichi responded to the post with a message that read, “I sincerely appreciate the warm congratulatory message from President [Bongbong Marcos].”
She also took note that 2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Philippines after the war.
PM Sanae Takaichi continued, “I also look forward to working closely with you to further strengthen the long-standing cooperative relationship with the Philippines, a strategic partner that shares fundamental values and principles, and to realize a“Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”
