It will be built for families and individuals that are affected by the construction of the LRT-1 Cavite extension.
Last Tuesday, February 3, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) formalized the transfer of fund to the local government unit of General Trias City, Cavite.
Amounting to PHP75 million, it is the first tranche of the fund to be used for the construction of additional facilities at the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) resettlement site in Brgy. Santiago.
The said site, called Kalinga Village, is for the people affected by the second phase of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) Cavite Extension project, which is slated to be extended to Bacoor by 2031.
Affected informal settler families (ISFs) coming from the cities of Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Bacoor in Cavite, now occupy 1,374 units of the total 1,698 housing units.
As per Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, the relocated families can now enjoy additional facilities as they settle in the neighborhood complete with basic amenities and decent facilities like a school building, park, water utility system, among others.
He said, “Mahigpit na utos ng Pangulo (Bongbong Marcos), ‘wag pabayaan ang mga kababayan nating inilipat ng tahanan dahil tinamaan ng proyekto ang kanilang mga bahay. Dapat maayos, disente at tuloy ang pamumuhay nila sa relocation site.”
DOTr Asec. for Right-of-Way and Site Acquisition (ROWSA) IC Calaguas said the agency has transferred the first tranche to General Trias City for the provision of basic social services and implementation of social livelihood program for PAPs (project-affected persons)
“Ang gusto po ni Sec. Lopez ay hindi lang basta mass transport. Kundi mabigyan din ng maginhawang pamumuhay ang maaapektuhan ng mga proyektong tulad nito,” told Calaguas.
He furthered, “Ang project na ito ay hindi magiging matagumpay kung wala pong local government unit na hindi nagdalawang salita na tumulong sa DOTr.”
Meanwhile, the General Trias LGU assured that the additional community facilities will be constructed at the LRTA resettlement site within the year.
