On Wednesday, February 4, the upper chamber adopted Senate Resolution No. (SRN) 35, which expresses the commendation and congratulatory message for the Philippine contingent at the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand.
During the games, which was held last December, the Philippines raked in a total of 277 medals—50 golds, 73 silvers, and 154 bronzes—enabling the country to rank sixth among the 10 competing countries of that edition.
Meanwhile, in the separate SRN 286, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) were also likewise commended and congratulated for their “exemplary leadership, support, and contribution” to the successful 33rd SEA Games campaign.
Before this, last January 21, the medal-winning athletes were presented their cash incentives in accordance with Republic Act No. 10699 (“National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act”).
Under which, it was stipulated that SEA Games gold medalists were awarded PHP300,000; PHP150,000 for silver medalists; PHP60,000 for bronze medalists.
Meanwhile, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. announced then that the Office of the President (OP) will be matching that amount, effectively doubling their prizes.
The OP will also give PHP10,000 each for athletes who won in competitions other than the SEA Games.
