On Thursday, January 29 (Manila time), Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena participated in the International Springer-Meeting, which was held at the Lausitz Arena in Cottbus, Germany.

There, the 30-year-old athlete competed with his contemporaries from around the world, with him able score two milestones for the year at the said tournament.

First, he was able to achieve his season best jump of 5.77 meters. Second, he got his first gold medal of his current indoor season, which he shared with Dutch pole vaulter Menno Vloon—the very first time that two athletes shared the top prize at the said meet.

In a post on his Instagram account, EJ shared a clip of his performance, where he used the song Bagsakan by Parokya Ni Edgar, which he said “got the crowd vibing.”

Brought one of my childhood beats (mga kantahan sa jeep) here in Cottbus to @parokyaniedgar. and got the crowd vibing,” he wrote.

Brick by brick we build. Thank you @springermeeting_cottbus and the amazing crowd for making this evening one to remember,” added Obiena.

Prior to this, he took home the bronze medal from the 6th ISTAF Indoor Dusseldorf, which is also in Germany, earlier in the week.
