Losing her bid to getting a WTA 125 trophy on home soil.
On Thursday, January 29, Filipina tennis star Alex Eala competed in the highly-anticipated quarterfinals match at the Philippine Women’s Open in Manila.
In her game that took place in the evening and before a crowd of mostly local spectators, the 20-year-old faced Colombian player Camila Osorio.
The first set was already an intense play between the two of them, but the momentum tilted in favor of the foreigner.
In the next set, however, the former world no. 33 showed her might against the current world no. 49 as she ended the latter’s hopes of getting a trophy in her home court.
Scores were as follows: 6-4, 6-4, in favor of the Colombian.
Still, it was a modest performance for Eala in the inaugural Philippine Women’s Open, which is the first WTA 125 tournament in the country.
Previously, the Filipina player overcame her Russian foe Alina Charaeva, 6-1, 6-2, in their Round of 32 match last Monday.
That was followed by her victory against Japan’s Himeno Sakatsume in the Round of 16 on Wednesday evening.
Despite her exit in the competition, the Philippine Women’s Open is set to run until Saturday, January 31 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.
