Making her debut on her home court successfully.

On Monday, January 26, the Philippine Women’s Open officially kicked off at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.

One of the most, if not the, much-awaited matches for fans is the home court debut of the country’s leading female tennis star and currently the WTA no. 49 player in the world, Alex Eala.

For her round of 32 game, she faced off with Alina Charaeva from Russia, who is placed 142nd worldwide.

It was a resounding success for the 20-year-old Filipina, as she overcame the challenge with a triumph, 6-1, 6-2, right in front of the local crowd the showed their support to her.

With that, she is entering the next round of the tournament, the Round of 16, where she will be going against either Hibino Nao and Sakatsume Himeno.

Alex just came from her successive plays in various tournaments in Oceania at the start of the year, which she kicked off with the ASB Classic in New Zealand, followed by the Kooyong Classic and Australian Open in Australia.

It was also confirmed last Friday, January 23, that the rising tennis star is set to compete in the main draw event of the upcoming Abu Dhabi Open, which will run from January 31 to February 7.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Women’s Open is the first WTA 125 tournament in the country and is set to run until Saturday, January 31.
