These teams will focus on implementing key reforms over the next two years.
According to the Department of Education (DepEd), it has tapped the help of both the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Together, the three agencies will accelerate and strengthen education reforms, most especially in early learning, inclusive education, and literacy recovery, by forming Permanent Working Groups (PWGs).
DepEd said it will lead the three PWGs focused on areas critical to the education system—Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD), Inclusive Education, and Functional Literacy and Learning Recovery.
Moreover, separate PWGs will be tasked to develop solutions for various programs and grade levels, such as senior high schools, workforce development, tertiary scholarships, teacher education and professionalization, creative economy, strategic communications, and legislative and policy agenda.
According to Education Secretary Sonny Angara, the formation of the PWGs clearly demonstrates the unity of education agencies and noted: “Our direction is clear—strengthen the foundation of learning and ensure that no student is left behind. This way, we can ensure that the reforms are continuous and there is clear accountability.”
Meanwhile, officials from CHED and TESDA also identified key initiatives they will pursue in the next two years to address challenges in their respective sectors, as well as strengthen linkages.
This synergy between the three units coincides with the upcoming release of the Final Report of EDCOM II, which sets out the 10-Year National Education and Workforce Development Plan that aims to gradually improve students’ reading and learning skills, align education with job needs, and ensure the continuous and long-term advancement of the education sector.
