In a video message released on Thursday, January 22, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said that he remains to be in good health and fully capable of performing his duties.
The chief executive noted that his recent medical condition is neither serious nor life-threatening, revealing his diagnosis to be diverticulitis, a common stomach-related illness among older people.
“I’m fine. I’m feeling very different from the way I was feeling before. Naayos na ‘yung problema. What happened was apparently, I now have diverticulitis. It’s a common complaint amongst apparently people who are heavily stressed, and people (who) are – I have to admit – growing old,” he told.
When asked by Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro whether doctors advised him to slow down from being overworked, he replied, “Well, yeah, of course, lagi naman sinasabi ng doktor sa akin ‘yun. Pero papaano mo naman gagawin ‘yun ang daming trabaho?”
He then reiterated, “It’s not a life-threatening condition… Huwag kayong mag-alala. The rumors of my death are highly exaggerated.”
His message came hours after Usec. Castro confirmed that the President spent the night under observation after experiencing discomfort.
It was also revealed later on that he was brought to the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City, before returning to Malacañang on Thursday afternoon to continue his duties.
On the same day, Marcos was said to have attended two meetings.
