Reflecting sustained demand for air travel and increased airport activity, its operator said.
In media release on Thursday, January 1, the New NAIA Infra Corp., which operates the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), said that it recorded the highest annual passenger traffic for the country’s main gateway in 2025.
Passenger traffic for the entire year reached 52.02 million during the year, with December being the busiest month in NAIAs history.
During that month, which included the peak travel dates leading to the Christmas and New Year holodays, a total of 4.86 million passengers were recorded.
Of that, International travelers accounted for 2.367 million, which was also a monthly high, while domestic passengers reached 2.495 million, the second-largest monthly volume recorded.
“The figures represent total airport activity across domestic, outbound and returning Filipino travel, business travel, and connecting traffic,” NNIC noted.
Despite the higher passenger volumes, the operator told, the airport operations remained stable during peak periods, which it attributed to the operational improvements that the consortium implemented.
These include the phased rollout of the new biometric immigration e-Gates, upgrades to passenger processing systems and terminal facilities, and closer coordination among airlines, government agencies, and airport stakeholders.
“Managing higher passenger volumes requires both infrastructure and close coordination. The focus has been on improving flow, reducing bottlenecks, and ensuring the airport can handle peak demand more effectively,” said NNIC.
