She is there for a special exhibition tournament.
In a story on her Instagram account on Thursday, December 25, Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala shared a picture of her on the hard court in Macau.
The 20-year-old is there for the MGM Macau Tennis Masters event, which will take place at the MGM this weekend, December 27 (Saturday) and December 28 (Sunday).
Eala, who is currently World No. 53 in women’s tennis globally, joins the line-up led by team captains Li Na and Conchita Martínez.
Other players present in the said tourney are Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Jakub Mensik, Ugo Humbert, Jerry Shang Juncheng, and Jack Draper in the men’s division, and Mirra Andreeva in the women’s category.
This event happens just a week after Alex made history after clinching the Philippines’ first gold medal in the women’s singles event at the 2025 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which was held in Thailand.
She broke the country’s 26-year drought, as the last time that a representative won gold was in 1999 by Maricris Fernandez-Gentz.
These events close the monumental year for Eala, who made strides in the sport this year. She was the first Filipina athlete to make it to the Miami Open finals, which later led her to the Eastbourne Open semifinals and the main draw of the Wimbledon.
Later on, she would achieve her first WTA 125 trophy after winning the Guadalajara Open in Mexico in September.
